Urban Youth Impact has brought a group of students to Kids Across America for over 15 years. Each year the organization is blown away by the evident transformation in the students’ lives. Over seven students accepted Christ as their Savior as well as several who recommitted their lives to Him.
The desire is for students to leave camp with a solid foundation of faith; being imparted the truth of the Gospel. The theme for camp was, “abide” based on John 15:4. “Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.” Nestor Medina, one of Urban Youth Impact’s outreach coordinators who has attended KAA the last two years, was able to teach on the life of King Saul and share the difficulties believers encounter when they cling to their own understanding rather than the Lord.
Kids Across America Kamp is a much-anticipated week-long sports camp for urban youth and their mentors; empowering them to become leaders who revolutionize the inner-city. For most of Urban Youth Impact’s students, this was their first time attending the camp. The first few days students experienced home-sickness, as it was their first time out of state or away from home; yet they soon forgot all their woes with all the fun to be had.
The students enjoy exciting activities, such as water tubing, archery, a ropes course, and even recording original music. “I love this trip because it brings the kids closer together in relationships and comradery. The Kamp is a high engagement Kamp from the minute you get off the bus,” said Nestor Medina.
Urban Youth Impact students were recognized for their servant’s heart throughout the week. Two students received the “Bumble Bee” award for putting others above themselves and another named Miles was the recipient of the “I am Third” award, which is the highest award given at Kids Across America Kamp.
“Next year the goal is to take two buses, over 70 students. Our students are forever impacted and left with a lasting imprint of God’s love and purpose for their lives. Can’t wait to do it again! KAA! YOU KNOW!” said Medina. Urban Youth Impact is excited to continue partnering with Kids Across America and sending students to the sports camp where the students are cared for and ministered to throughout the entire week.
